Russell Askey

Russell E Askey, 83, of Howard passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Mount Nittany Hospital. 

Born on December 19, 1939, in Howard, he was the son of the late Harold and Esther (Phillips) Askey.

Russell was a 1957 graduate of Lock Haven High School. After graduation Russell began working at Standard Lime/Marblehead Lime Co where he was employed for 39 years before his retirement. In addition to his employment at the lime quarry, Russell was a farmer for his entire life working his family farm. 

He was a member of the Beech Creek American Legion, Howard VFW, Democratic Club in Clarence. 

Overall, Russell was a hardworking man that enjoyed being around his friends and family. He was a social butterfly that had friends everywhere he went. He loved helping his friends, oftentimes mowing their lawns and spending quality time with them joking, laughing and making lasting memories for all who met him. Above all Russell enjoyed riding his Harley and taking road trips with his best friend Gibbie. 

Russell is survived by four daughters, Lisa Strunk (Craig), Diana Askey, Sandra Askey (Jay) and Jeana Askey; seven grandchildren Joshua Andrus, Daniel Askey, Dustin Askey, Lance Slaterbeck, Adam Askey, Trapper Kunes, and  JaNeva Askey; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; three sisters, Vonda Weight, Marilyn Martin, Ruth Carter; and one brother, Wayne Askey.

In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death by his daughter Neva Askey; one sister Jane Matis; and one brother Randall Askey.

Family and friends will be received for a time of visitation on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 5 - 8 PM at Singer Kader Neff Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 135 W Main St, Howard, PA and again at the funeral home from 10-11am on Thursday, July 27, 2023. A funeral service will begin at 11AM on Thursday with Nancy Hackenberg officiating.
