Robert Smith Obituary

Robert (Bob) Duane Smith of Port Matilda, PA entered his Heavenly home on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College at the age of 74. Bob was born on September 13, 1949, in Huntington, PA to the late June (Rinehart) Musser of Frenchville, PA and the late Harry Smith of Saxton, PA.  He was the foster son of the late Melvin and Anna Musser of Chambersburg, PA.

Surviving is his wife of 52 years, Doris (Wert) Smith of Port Matilda; daughter Joanne Wintermyer (Rev. Devin) of Punxsutawney, PA; son Robert Smith (Angela) of Port Matilda, PA; grandsons: Josiah Smith (Naomi) and Nathan Smith; granddaughters: Eliana Wintermyer, Jolena Wintermyer, and Rylee Smith; brothers: Harry Smith (Carol) of Mechanicsburg, PA, step-brother Dennis Smith of Huntington, PA, and foster brother Kenneth Musser (Faye) of Greencastle, PA; sisters: Bonnie McGovern of State College, PA and Dorothy Hoover of Greencastle, PA; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved very much.

Bob served our country in the United States Army as a field wireman and a sergeant.  He retired after working for Penn State University as an Audio-Visual Technician.  He also enjoyed fixing and installing sound equipment in churches throughout the area.  He had his own lawn mower business for many years, and really enjoyed repairing mowers for people.  Bob worked hard for what he had, and he appreciated and took care of those things.  It would be hard to find someone who had a cleaner vehicle or workshop.  He always kept them neat as a pin and shiny, and everything was always clean and in its proper place.

Bob loved his family, especially his children and grandchildren, and he loved spending as much time with them as he could.  Time spent with family gave him great joy and he often said that it was the greatest gift that he could have.  He had an incredible way of adding fun and joy to a room and making everyone feel loved and special.

Bob loved and served God, his family, his country, and his friends with all of his heart.  He always loved making people smile.  He was a blessing to many, even while he was ill.  He is greatly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed!  We look forward to our reunion with him in Heaven someday soon!
